Friday, February 8

Well, this is it. Another two hours or so and I will most likely have all my things out of my room and loaded into trucks. My stereo is packed up and so are my books. I'm about to dismantle my bed and throw my wardrobe into the last box that's making the trip. I expect to find myself in a sleeping bag on my floor tonight as my waterbed won't be fully heated until sometime tomorrow.

Like I previously mentioned, I've been finding all kinds of crazy things while digging through my room. The funniest of all however has been a little item that I came across while digging through a drawer which seemed to be filled with schoolwork from my elementary days: spelling tests, art class scribblings, silly stories about Garfield that I wrote when I was little. Fun, but hardly funny. I cracked up though when I ran across an old folder that had everybody's favorite rags-riches-rags 80s rapper, MC Hammer adorning the cover--bright sequin parachute pants, huge sunglasses and all. It was quite the comical site. After a few minutes of laughing in solitude, I placed it in the "keep" box and moved on with my work.

I'm packing up my things today, preparing for tomorrow's move. It involves putting aside everything that I won't use, clearing out drawers, throwing away the things that don't matter to me. It's quite the whirlwind of emotions as I've been finding old love letters, early pictures from high school, angsty teenage journals that I started but only wrote in half the pages before giving up. The journal entries are the most entertaining. I swear, sometimes I don't know what I was thinking (chuckle now). It's kind of sad that I'm laughing at some of those emotions I had in high school but most of those little things do seem so silly to me now.

It's unclear when or if I'm going to have an internet connection in the apartment for a while so I'm not sure how meager my posting will be. Yikes, living without a regular internet connection. How will I cope?

Finally, Cross My Heart (R.I.P.) has a great quote for moving: Today I packed all my things. How many things do I need. Tomorrow I'm moving from paine street. I guess this is goodbye. And I'm moving on my own two feet. Just to get my direction.

Tuesday, February 5

This is not the week to get sick (which I can feel happening). I'm trying to get some very important shows set up while figuring out how I'm going to move out. I need to practice for the show that I'm playing on Saturday out-of-town on top of the essays, math exercises, and other various assignments that I have due this week. Symptoms include achy chest, turning stomach, exhaustion, etc. It could be the effects of my staying up late hours doing homework or promotions though. Let's hope that's it.

By the way, this song by a band called Counterfit is great. I was under the impression that they were a hardcore band but I was completely wrong. I may be putting on a show for them in March. Look for it.

Monday, February 4

The White Octave broke up. It happened in November and I had no idea it had taken place. They claim the rights to one of my favorite songs of all time, Style #6312. It's one of those slower, sadder songs, the kind that I always seem to go for. I found the news while after I noticed that, one of the companies that I regularly promote shows for, no longer had TWO on their roster. Then, after some research, I found this account of the band's last show from their front man Stephen. You'll have to excuse me, I'm a little somber over the matter. Let us have a moment of silence followed by spats with neighbors because I'm playing Menergy too loudly please.

By Myself News: Among other dates that I'm working on, I have just agreed to play a completely solo date at Bookman's on Speedway. The two unique things about this performance are: first, that admission is FREE, and second, that I will be the only act appearing that night. That's right, By Myself by myself. You have no reason not to go.
