I ran across the newest Onelinedrawing album on vinyl at Zia's last night and couldn't resist buying the red colored masterpiece for nine bucks and some change. It's become the most recent addition to my respectably growing collection of vinyl which has included recent purchases from The Promise Ring, Desparacidos, The Gloria Record, and Death Cab for Cutie. I have a lot of new music on my hands and I'm beginning to realize that it's becoming the soundtrack to a quickly changing time in my life. I have so many friends growing, moving on, changing...leaving.
I'm sure I'll listen to the newest Onelinedrawing album down the road (which in a few years will be many releases behind the artist) and bring memories of this shaky time all crashing back to my life. It will remind me of watching my best friends graduate, sitting back while others move away. It will remind me of new friends, and old ones that I miss. It will remind me of happy times, and somber ones too. A great soundtrack is nice that way...it triggers memories of the most dramatic times.

A year ago this past Monday was the best day of my life so far. I remember driving my car up to the highest drivable point in my suburb, parking, and listening to Pollen as I watched the sun fall down and out of the sky for the night. All I could think was, "How can life get any better? What more can I ask for?" and it was true, life couldn't get any better. No matter what I named off in my life it was all going my way: school, parents, girlfriend, work, possessions, direction. All had fallen into place and I was blessed.
It's difficult to mark that one year anniversary simply because things aren't going as well anymore. Yes, I'm recovering/almost recovered from the toughest five months of my life (at the end of last year), and things are starting to look up again but this middle end of May is still a little somber. It's as if all the collective positive and negative energies in the world, and all the winds of change converge on my life right around this time and I can't say that I like it.
It's hard to grow up.
