I picked up a copy tonight for the Promise Ring feature--which turned out to be very long, much to my delight--and read on to find reviews on the Gloria Record, Liars Academy, Pedro the Lion, and the ideal review of Andrew W.K. ("here...is what's wrong with the music industry"). I guess you can't go wrong with a magazine who's inside-front cover ad features the new Gloria Record album. Some of the articles are a little more (to coin the term) post-alt rock for my tastes, but it's nice to read articles written for an older crowd that is both indie and pop rock and roll at the same time. I think my favorite quote came from the back page editorial which states, "I learned more about life and the world and about being human from rock 'n' roll records than all the rest of it put together." And this being written by a 39 year old who witnessed the punk movement of the 80s first-hand (à la us and the indie/emo explosion)....it made me very happy. On a side note: I'm taking serious consideration to compiling a list of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. That's no easy task, mind you, considering all the gems that have come out in the past five months. 'Tis a daunting ordeal. link it up | | 3:20 AM AZ |
